Some wedding days feel effortless from beginning to end, and F & R’s celebration at Veliz Banquets & Events in Whittier, California was exactly that kind of day. One of the things I immediately love about photographing weddings at Veliz Banquets & Events is the variety. There are intimate garden spaces, beautiful wrought-iron structures, greenery, open lawns, and architectural details that allow us to create several completely different looks without ever leaving the property.
For F & R, the garden setting became the perfect backdrop for their newlywed portraits. The soft greenery surrounding the venue paired beautifully with the bride’s lace wedding gown and the groom’s white tuxedo jacket, creating an elegant and timeless look.
Rather than simply placing them in front of a beautiful background, I wanted the portraits to feel natural and connected. Some moments were directed, while others came from simply allowing them to talk, laugh, and enjoy the fact that they were finally married.
The wrought-iron gazebo and surrounding garden areas provided some of my favorite portrait locations from the day. The shapes, vines, and texture created a natural frame around F & R while still keeping the attention completely on them.
These are the kinds of spaces I’m always looking for as a wedding photographer. A beautiful venue gives you possibilities, but light, composition, and connection are what transform those possibilities into photographs that feel intentional.
There are beautiful venues, incredible florals, elegant wedding gowns, and carefully planned details. But when I look back through a wedding gallery, the photographs I remember most are almost always the ones where something genuine is happening.
A smile between the bride and groom. A quick laugh. A quiet look. The excitement of entering the reception together. The emotion during a speech.
Those are the photographs that become more important as time passes.
My approach to wedding photography is to combine those real moments with intentional portraiture and creative lighting, giving couples a gallery that feels both artistic and personal.
